El reguetón en Premios Ícono no podría faltar y es que, ¿Cuántos no han tenido una canción de reguetón en su mente durante semanas? Sin duda, la influencia del reguetón forma parte de nuestra misma cultura caribeña y que gracias a los artistas, la melodía y la lírica han cruzado fronteras llegando a países que no hubiésemos imaginado, fuera de latinoamérica.
Con más de 30 años de trayectoria musical, podemos afirmar que es mucho más que un género, forma parte de nuestra cultura y en algunos países, como Jamaica y Puerto Rico, hasta de su tradición. No hay emisora o televisión que no emita alguna melodía, tanto como de las más sonadas actualmente como también las que nos regresan al pasado.
Con la misma iniciativa y alcance que el reguetón tiene a nivel mundial queremos homenajear a esos artistas, con un largo o corto recorrido en el género urbano. Pero que sin duda han ayudado a impulsar nuestras raíces, tradiciones ¿Y por qué no? También melodías. Es por ello, que en los Premios Ícono 2021 no podría faltar una categoría especial, como el reguetón, que premie a nuestros artistas urbanos. ¿Quieres conocer acerca de sus orígenes y por qué nos representa? ¡Sigue leyendo!
Premios Ícono 2021: ¡El reguetón y sus orígenes!
Contrario a lo que se podría pensar, los inicios de este género musical van más allá de 1990. Donde surge como un acortamiento entre la palabra reggae y maratón, propuesto así en una canción por el mismo Daddy Yankee. Quien le hizo mención en un verso y desde allí la palabra comenzó a tener más alcance dentro del público.
Sin embargo, mucho antes de esto, el estilo musical ya se encontraba presente como una forma de cultura dentro de Jamaica, Trinidad y Tobago y muchas otras islas del caribe. Y por tanto, se dice que el reguetón forma parte de la cultura caribeña, siendo música en español y que hoy en día es escuchado en todo el mundo. Especialmente, con predominio en latinoamérica.
Tuvo un auge bastante significativo en los años 2000 y desde entonces se ha podido evidenciar cientos de artistas que han marcado la pauta y creado sus propias composiciones. Por mencionar algunos grandes éxitos, tenemos a “Despacito”, una canción interpretada por el puertorriqueño, Luis Fonsi, en conjunto con Daddy Yankee hace más de 4 años. Y que aún en la actualidad, seguimos escuchando y moviéndonos al ritmo de ella, no por nada es la canción más reproducida en la plataforma de Youtube.
A partir de ella, hemos visto más artistas unirse a la tendencia caribeña combinando letras que van desde románticas a feministas, impulsando todavía más este género entre las mujeres. Sin embargo, el reguetón no solo engloba a un tipo específico de música o de melodía, es un conjunto formado por varios subgéneros que de seguro al escucharlo sabemos diferenciarlos. Veamos algunos de ellos:
Dembow
Representa a la música urbana, y es que desde sus inicios, el reguetón fue llamado dembow por muchos años, haciendo referencia al sonido que se lograba captar en la pista. El cual era: boom-ch-boom-chick, hasta que, por supuesto, Daddy Yankee mencionó la palabra reguetón en la canción playero 36 y desde allí se comenzó a tomar al dembow como un subgénero.
Un ejemplo que de seguro habrás escuchado, ¿y quién sabe? Hasta cantado a todo pulmón, es el éxito de Danny Ocean con su tema dembow. Que a pesar de no seguir las pautas en ritmo ni en lírica, sí demostró un estilo mucho más limpio, romántico y con ritmo bailable que armoniza al subgénero.
Reggae
¿Cómo no mencionar al reggae? Un género musical propio de Jamaica, desde los 60 ‘s, y que en la actualidad sigue representando una melodía que forma parte de la cultura. Especialmente, en el reguetón, pues vemos en él la influencia del género en los panameños, quienes dieron pie al origen del reggae en español. Un pilar que acompaña al género urbano.
Hip hop o rap
Más allá de latinoamérica, el reguetón también tiene sus orígenes en norteamérica, específicamente en New York, con el hip hop. El cual consta de elementos como el rap, que consiste en recitar o cantar versos o líricas con temas variados, generalmente enfocándose en la influencia social.
Aunque actualmente, es tendencia que es cada vez más utilizada en canciones de reguetón. Puesto que, se observan canciones que incluyen un verso en rap, y que crea un contraste divertido y diferente a la melodía tradicional.
Algunos ejemplos de esta vertiente, podemos mencionar X (EQUIS), canción interpretada por el artista Nicky Jam, en colaboración con J Balvin, en el año 2018. También, “Dura” de Daddy Yankee y más recientemente “Location” interpretada por Karol G y J. Balvin. Todas ellas, aunque pertenezcan al reguetón u otros subgéneros tienen en común una estrofa o verso interpretado el rap que acompaña a la canción.
Dance
Conocida como “Electronic Dance Music” o simplemente “EDM” es un conjunto de melodías que acompañan un ritmo electrónico de tipo house, techno, dubstep, hard dance o incluso hasta dance pop. La cual busca principalmente que su audiencia baile y se mueva al ritmo de la música. Que suele ser generalmente pegadiza, repetitiva y que admite diferentes tipos de voces o incluso hasta música instrumental.
Siendo así, ¿Cómo incluyó tanto el subgénero dance a la cultura del reguetón? Desde sus inicios, al igual que el dembow, el dancehall fue utilizado por los Jamaicanos junto a una mezcla de reggae. Quienes años después, jamás pensarían que tuvieron tanta influencia en la creación del género urbano que hoy en día conocemos y no paramos de escuchar.
Y así como dance, a el reguetón se le suman más orígenes musicales y que dentro de los cuales, incluso sin saberlo, habrás escuchado alguna canción, como lo es el dub, pop latino, toasting y más.
